Anne Staunsager is a great colleague and also good friend of mine. She is one of the most excellent makeup artists in Scandinavia represented by Lundlund in Sweden and Unique creatives in Denmark and she has won the title Danish makeup artist of the year several times. Her work has been featured in magazines like Elle, DANSK magazine, Vanity Fair, I.D. and many more, and she has a long list of prominent clients. Anne and I shared a small apartment in East Village New York years ago and got really close. Recently Anne was back in N.Y. to work with a big international client (more on that when the work is out). She brought her boyfriend and stayed a few extra days and I asked her to snap a few shots of her favorite spots in the Big Apple to share here on Marieandthemakeup.

My favorite products for the journey. I’m always trying to limit myself but it’s so hard!
Breakfast at The Jane where I was staying. I always start the day with fresh fruit on yogurt and I ad my own Acai powder from Acaiacai (containing fantastic stuff like antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and oils). And of course a skinny cappuccino to go with it!
The Jane Hotel, where I was staying, has the best atmosphere and they are super helpful. It still looks like it did back in the day when it mainly was for sailors ,- it’s almost like sleeping on a boat with small cabins (you can also opt for the captain cabin or even bunk beds). It’s placed in the heart of the Meatpacking District and it’s affordable!
Of course me and Michael had to walk the beautiful walk over Brooklyn Bridge.
There isn’t a trip to New York without going to one of the many nail salons (almost on every street corner). My favorite this time was a shellac manicure in a subtle powder color, I had it done the first day I arrived and it lasted the whole 10 days I was there!
The classic open sandwich with avocado and a watermelon juice at Cafe Gitane on Mott St. in Soho. one of my favorite areas with cafes and really good shopping.
My absolute favorite restaurant in NYC! Tacombi! They serve crazy good Mexican food and the atmosphere is great. I recommend the crispy fish taco and the white sangria. I always visit this place at least once when I’m in NY (and 3 times this time!) It’s in Soho on Elisabeth St. and Houston.
You always get a different view of the city when you go for a run, I love to go running early before the city wakes up. Here I’m by the Hudson River the first morning after arriving, a bit jet-lagged I was up at 5.30 and witnessed the most beautiful sunrise – wonderful start of the day!
Dean and Deluca on Broadway in Soho is a great place for a quick lunch. Filled with fresh and delicious food and drinks – You just wanna buy it all! I spend forever to decide but this time I went for a spicy salmon avocado sushi roll and a sandwich for my boyfriend.
Rickys NYC! The first time I was in Rickys I really couldn’t believe it. -My heart was beating and I was totally stressing out because I didn’t have time to see it ALL. It’s my all time favorite “makeup candy store” and honestly it still gets my heart beating! They seriously have everything a makeup geek could wish for – and a little more!
