THE RETURN OF THE LIP LINER AND HOW TO USE IT LIKE A PRO
Hi there. I’ve been using lip liners more and more in my work as a makeup artist the past years. Because lip liners were big when I was a teenager ( in the 90’s baby, I know I talk about this alot, but the 90’s is THE decade at the moment when it comes to fashion). Than later on, I only used liners when doing a perfect red or dark lip you know, I had overdosed when I was young. Now I’m really kinda obsessed with lip liners again and want to share does, dont’s and tips with you guys.
Since Charlotte Tilbery launched her perfect lip liners ‘Lip Cheat’ I’ve taken liners back into my kit, in all shades of nude, browns, and fleshy colors.
Using a lip liner alone, with a lipstick or balm can give your lips a perfectly defined shape. It will also make your lipstick stay more in place and last a lot longer. Let me explain how to use a lip liner without being afraid of looking like a stripper from the millennium.
Find the right color: If your using a liner with a lipstick make sure to chose one that matches your lipstick, or go ever so slightly darker, as this will make your mouth pout a little. DON’T overdo it in color, no one should be able to see that there’s actually a difference.
Emphasis your lips: Use a lip liner to emphasis your natural lip color and shape, a lot of us have an undefined lip line, you can make it more defined and perfectly shaped, by using a liner that matches your natural lip color. Simply draw the shape, tone the liner in towards the lips and add a little lipbalm.
Correct imperfections: Simply draw the shape into perfection for instance if you have a lip that drops i.e.. DON’T over do it though, that look’s makeuppy and cheap.
A little extra tip: When applying the lip liner, is should not be too pointy or hard as that’s gonna give an unnatural shape, think soft and round like you want your lips to be.
Here’s a small selection of my fave for a natural look:
