JAPANESE MAKEUP OBSESSION

You can’t mention Gyaru with saying ‘Hello Kitty’!

I’ve been a fan of everything japanese for a very long time and I love how they do everything meticulously and so different from the west. When they do something, they’re never half-assed! Among loads of other things, I find the culture called ‘Gyaru’ very interesting…The Gyaru (Gal in english) is breaking all the rules of  “what’s pretty” and loves expressing herself with wigs, contacts, fake lashes, fake nails etc. Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have all been inspired by Gyaru. It’s not something I’d personally wear, nor is it something that would fit your ordinary, scandi girl, I just think it’s fun, fascinating and hugely inspiring!

Gyaru magazine. They love their fonts and stickers!

There are many branches of Gyaru. These are called ‘Decora’. Guess why.

Full on makeup! They wear large contacts and loads of lashes to make the eyes appear larger like an anime cartoon. Unlike western eye makeup where we want the eyes to appear cat-like, the japanese like extending the eyelashes downwards to make the eye appear “droopy” and cute.

‘Canmake’ is a popular japanese makeup brand. Unlike many of us (and certainly makeup artists!) when applying their makeup, the girls don’t mind using the sponges and applicators that come with their compact.
